Simon moved from his home in Calgary to Bridgewater, NS. When moving in, it was apparent that the home was having some ongoing water issues. I am an end unit of four townhouses. Found a small amount of water coming out from under the drywall covering foundation wall. Removed the panel . Insulation seemed dry , no sign of mold. Months later ,further down more water but discoloured. Started removing drywall and it was a mess. Wet. Mice had built nests , leaves and droppings visible. Rotted wood. Very obvious cracks in the foundation. One had been obviously visible to builder. Repaired poorly. Have about half drywall and insulation down. Plan to remove it all.

I am interested in purchasing a property that is built on a slab foundation with a very clear and obvious crack in the centre. One side of the house is visibly lower than the other. I would like to find out what repairs are possible and what costs I might be looking at. The house is vacant (owned by a bank) and the floors are covered by, in one room, a carpet which is already loose and easily lifted to view the concrete underneath, and in another room, a loose sheet of chipboard, so I think viewing the crack in the foundation would be easy. Have a brook which runs under the basement floor.When there is heavy rain, or now with all the melting snow in the area,the brook swells of course and water leaks in at the floor-wall joint. It is not flood or anything but water trickles across the floor to the drain. I have put up with this for many years.
