Foundation Repair- Upper Vaughn, NS
Challenge
In a recent foundation repair project, Ridgeback Basement Systems assisted homeowners in Upper Vaughn, Nova Scotia, who had purchased a charming yet aged cottage originally constructed in the 1970s. The homeowners reached out to us with a concern—it seemed that the home, elevated on a concrete pier foundation, exhibited areas where the floors were not level. They were unsure whether the settling was typical for an older structure or indicative of a foundation issue demanding attention.
Solution
Following their call, our customer care specialist efficiently scheduled an inspection. Our system design specialist visited the property to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the home’s structural integrity. After a thorough evaluation, it was determined that a few piers had indeed settled over time, contributing to the uneven flooring. Our solution involved installing the SmartJack® System, a high-quality product specifically engineered to stabilize crawl space beams and floor joists. Our skilled production team executed the installation by precisely cutting galvanized steel columns to the required lengths, which they meticulously set onto 12-inch steel bases. These columns were secured to existing girders using adjustable top brackets. The expertise applied throughout the project ensured the lifted floors gradually realigned with their original elevation, significantly reducing sagging and eliminating any noticeable "bounce." By the end of the process, the home’s structure received a stable footing, much to the owner’s satisfaction. The project not only remedied the uneven floor issue but also offered the homeowners peace of mind through the invaluable assurance of a safe and stable environment in their newly acquired cottage.
